REPLACING A WINDOW WITH GLASS BLOCK PAGE

Replacing A Window With Glass Block

Pakmix Glass Block Mortar Mix is a precise blend of high quality white Portland cement, hydrated lime, graded sand and chemical additives. This pre-mixed mortar is ideal for building glass block dividing walls, window enclosures or any application requiring high quality white mortar.

Tools Needed For Project:

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Hoe
  • Masonry trowel
  • Jointing tool
  • Plastic dividers
  • Level

Step #1:

Remove the old window and frame, leaving the masonry opening. Measure the opening for width and height to determine how many glass blocks are needed. Mix Pakmix Glass Block Mortar to a slightly stiffer consistency than conventional mortar.

Step #2:

Spread a layer of mortar for the base course. Then spread mortar on one edge of the glass block and place it on the base course of mortar and against the masonry opening. Succeeding blocks are laid in the same manner until the first course is completed.

Step #3:

Level and plumb the blocks removing excess mortar. Glass block are designed to have a joint thickness of one quarter inch. Place additional courses in the same way you did the first course, aligning the block as you go.

Step #4:

When the mortar joints stiffen and become thumb print hard, use a jointing tool to compact the mortar and give the joint a professional appearance. Finish cleaning the glass blocks with a damp cloth or sponge.
