Setting a Post
Pakmix® Fast-Setting Concrete is a specially formulated blend of Portland cement and course aggregates ideal for use where fast setting time and/or high strength is desired. Sets in approximately 30 minutes.
Tools Needed for Project:
- Wheelbarrow
- Float
- Hoe
- Curing cover
- Shovel
- Garden hose
- Trowel
- Level
- Steel Rod
- Hammer
- 2 x 4’s
- Stakes
- 8-penny nails
Step #1:
Dig a hole 18″ wide. The depth of the hole needs to be one-third the length of the post. Level up the post and tack supports to hold the post steady while pouring the concrete.
Step #2:
All ingredients have been thoroughly pre-blended. Just add clean water and mix to a smooth consistency, following the instructions on the bag. Avoid a soupy mix as too much water decreases the strength and durability.
Step #3:
Place mix around the post. Overfill the hole slightly and work the air bubbles out with a steel rod. Use a float or trowel to consolidate the concrete.
Step #4:
To make sure the concrete cures correctly, keep it moist with a fine mist from your garden hose. Then cover with opaque plastic or burlap. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for 3 days.
Suggested Uses:
- Fast setting of post and deck supports
- Poured footings for same day construction
- Rapid concrete repair for same day traffic
