Building with Mortarless Block
Pakmix® Surface Bonding Cement is one of the most versatile products available on the market today. It is a specially formulated blend of cement, sand, additives and fibers. The fibers play an important role in giving a high degree of strength not available with other products.
Tools Needed for Project:
- Wheelbarrow
- Hoe
- Shims
- Garden hose
- Steel trowel
- Level
- Safety glasses and gloves
Step #1:
Place the first course of block in a bed of mixed Surface Bonding Cement on an existing slab. Tamp level, then wait for the first course to build strength. The remainder of the blocks can be placed in a running bond pattern without mortar in the joints.
Step #2:
Maintain level blocks with shims or small amounts of mixed surface bonding cement. Dampen the block with a fine mist of water on both sides, then mix the Surface Bonding Cement.
Step #3:
The mix should be just wet enough to trowel but not so wet that it slides off a trowel. Trowel the material starting with an upward motion from bottom to top to a thickness of 1/8 inch.
Step #4:
After coating both sides and the material has set, cover with opaque plastic and keep the wall damp for 3 days with an occasional fine misting of water.
